Lotus Lab

A unique coffee shop in Jungang Market. The shop is located in a narrow alley in Hwanghak-dong's Seoul Jungang Market. It's in an alley on the periphery, a bit removed from the market's center. The alley has the feel of a market street, combined with the atmosphere of Euljiro's tool streets. In front of the shop, there's a store with 'Real Estate' written on its glass door, and outside the window next door, a rose bush looks rather charming. The interior is wood-toned and spacious. There's a separate roasting room. Lotus Lab also has a branch in Myeong-dong, and they opened this separate shop in March of this year, having sought a suitable place for roasting. The barista, a calm-looking man, works by commuting between Myeong-dong and this location. Rock and roll music plays. By the window, two young women are chatting. I enjoyed the music and coffee standing at the central table, which had no chairs. Coffee enjoyed standing offers a different kind of pleasure. For beans, I ordered the 'Boksakkot' (Peach Blossom) blend. Its aroma is bright and smooth. It's an easy-to-enjoy flavor. While the area around Sindang Station has changed so much that the phrase 'sea change' seems fitting, this place retains its old appearance. If you come to Seoul Jungang Market, if you come to Sindang Station, if you're having coffee, it's worth wandering through the labyrinthine alleys of Jungang Market to enjoy coffee at this uniquely atmospheric shop.
